This morning we got up on the early side of things, and Polly and I went shopping, a vital cultural experience in any city. We check out of our apartment, with a short list of things we still wanted to accomplish. Our Lady of Victories Church, originally built in 1688. It was the church of the early French settlers, re-named after a victory over the British troops. In 1759, when the British finally overtook the French in the battles of the Plains of Abraham, the church was destroyed by cannon fire. It was rebuilt, and rebuilt again before peace was restored in New France.
We went to a show at the Musee de Fort, which gives an excellent overview of the overtaking of Quebec by the British during the years of conflict between England and France over Canada.
We ate a packed lunch at the Plains of Abraham...and walked about in the pouring rain before we left Quebec City.
Leaving Quebec City behind today, we are heading toward Drummondville, Quebec. This was a default city en route to Boston. Default because we had a hard time finding somewhere with a pool. We’ll stay here two nights, just as a breather from touring and doing and just chill. We’ll head out to Boston on the 7th, and it’ll be a long travelling day indeed.
But tonight, and tomorrow, some R&R, a holiday from a holiday as it were. I may take the opportunity to post some photos.
